What To Do

Daily boat tours  
In the original turquoise bays and waters. Surprisingly natural, since there are no roads to the coast in most of Hisarönü bay. One can join a daily tour with 5 or 6 nice swimming stops, and a menu on the tour boat, or rent a smaller boat and make it a private pleasure.

Dining out
The surroundings of selimiye, Orhaniye, Bozburu became very popular for food and restaurants, most direct on the seaside.  We suggest you consult us where to go, ones you are in Selimiye. 

Jeep Safaris
British tourists especially love the jeep convoys.  Tours are based in Marmaris, and you have the bright sunshine and fresh air, with around 10 people on each jeep. The small but clear roads of the peninsula lead all the way through Bayırköy, with a steep view at Turunç, on the outskirts of Marmaris.  You can cool down in hot summer, in the cold waterfall of Turgut village.

Scooters
You can tell the touring tourists from the villagers because the former usually wear helmets, while the latter, abandoning their donkeys, take in large numbers to any make or model of scooter, mostly made in PRC.  Take care to note the petrol stations, since there aren’t many around the peninsula. After the BP station in Değirmenyanı on your way from Marmaris, there are only 2 petrol stations.  One is in Orhaniye yacht harbour and the other on the outskirts of Bozburun. 

Yacht construction
The race between Bozburun and Bodrum is still on. Who builds the longest Gulet ? We are around 50 to 60 m at the time being. These Gulets now fulfill the Lloyds’ criteria for electrical security, but the body is still made in a very traditional fashion. Interesting to see these huge wooden boats being built even inlands on people’s backyards, leaving the question open, how do they arrive to the water?  Gulets now are exported around the world, since the wood is now covered with epoxy layers, giving the boat long life and easy maintenance, unlike simple wood and paint in the past.
The villages Bozburun, Selimiye, Turgut have unexpectedly skilled workmanship in carpentry, electrical and water systems, painting, all based on the Gulet building in the area. Recently one of the largest Gulet docks is owned by a Russian shipbuilding company, but still building in traditional way.

Windsurfing
Windsurfing lessons and equipment to rent are available for beginners in Hisarönü Bay and in Datça for advanced windsurfers. Datça is famous with its wind,  blowing down all agais most of the days in the summer.  The Turkish name for this northwind is Poyraz, greek will call it Meltemi.  The wind is less strong to feel in Hisarönü.

Diving

In the village
Many possibilities to enjoy the lovely sea, restaurants, gulet construction, local castle, several nice walks. The "shallow beach", Sığliman, at the northeast end of the village. Ancient Carian tombs graves in the water. 

Marmaris
One of the well known Turkish summer vacation places. Selimiye is a village belonging to Marmaris administration, 40 km of drive.  Marmaris would add to Selimiye with shopping needs, markets, restaurants,  bars, discos, and a unique natural location itself. Can be seen as a larger Selimiye from natural position point of view. If you drive yourself, keep in mind that for all our safety the route between Marmaris and Selimiye is well controlled for speed, and driving under alcohol. Public minibus traffic till certain hours in the evening,  otherwise a taxi is needed for night journeys.

Bozburun
7 km to our west is Bozburun, a small town with several facilities and larger stores. Very good area for yachting. 

Söğüt
A very lovely small village nearly at the south west edge of Anatolian peninsula. A good fish restaurant. Slow motion life. 

Historical Sites
The Carians, lived here as long ago as 1250 BC, the main area is called Hisarönü peninsula, “place of castles”. Caria means “steep country”. 
At the northwest end of Hisarönü bay lies Knidos the city of Pythagoras. A well kept old city and harbour in the wild waters, at the very edge of mainland. There are  wild waters around Knidos Cape when the Meltemi blows in the summer. It is calm inside the harbour. The city is still well preserved and not yet fully excavated.  You can swim into history, in crystal clear waters and feel like 2000 BC. Busy at night with sailing boats, the only harbour on the way from Bodrum and Kos to Hisarönü, Marmaris and Göcek direction. Knidos and old Datça would be worth a half day visit from Selimiye. Challenging windsurfing around Datça, where it is possible to rent windsurfing equipment.

Visiting Turgut village, carpet workshop and waterfalls 
Just 15 Minutes drive is Turgut village. There is a real Turkish carpet workshop and store, where one can observe carpet production and have a large selection of traditional carpets. At the same time, worth visit the small bur surprising waterfall on turgut s hills, in a dark green forest, to enjoy the luxury of cold fresh water in this very summerish surroundings. Have swimming gear with you.     

Datça
Visit the old town and famous poet Can Yücel's house, enjoy a street full of art workshops and go windsurfing at one of Turkey's best windsurfing venues; all just an hour away by car.
